Plie Squats
Muscles worked: Legs & Glutes · Also: Back & Core, Glutes & Hips, Calves
Plie Squats are a wide-stance squat with toes turned out, like a ballet plié. The wide stance and turned-out feet shift more work to the inner thighs and glutes.
Stand wide with toes angled out, keep your chest tall, and lower straight down between your heels. Keep your knees tracking in the same direction as your toes, and only go as deep as you can while holding that alignment.
How to do it
- Stand with your feet well wider than your shoulders and your toes turned out.
- Keep your chest tall and lower straight down between your heels.
- Keep your knees tracking in the same direction as your toes, and lower only as far as you can while holding that alignment.
- Drive up through your whole feet to stand, keeping your chest tall.
- If your knees cave inward, narrow the stance slightly or shorten the depth.
