Jumping Jacks

Muscles worked: Shoulders, Legs & Glutes, Inner Thighs & Hips · Also: Legs, Calves, Chest

To do jumping jacks, stand with your feet together and your arms at your sides, then jump your feet out while raising your arms overhead and jump back to feet together with your arms down, landing softly each time. They wake up the whole body in seconds.

Stay light on your toes, keep a soft bend in your knees, and land softly. If jumping bothers your knees, do the same pattern as a low-impact step-out instead — the arm and leg rhythm is what matters for a warm-up.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet together and your arms down at your sides.
  2. Jump your feet out to the sides while raising your arms overhead.
  3. Jump back to feet together with your arms down.
  4. Stay light on your toes, keep a soft bend in your knees, and land softly each time.
  5. If jumping bothers your knees, step out to each side instead, keeping the same arm and leg rhythm.
