Prone Triceps Push Ups
Muscles worked: Triceps · Also: Shoulders, Chest
Prone Triceps Push Ups are done face down with the hands close to the body: you press up mainly with the triceps, keeping the elbows tucked and the body straight.
Set your hands beside your lower ribs, keep your elbows close as you press, and hold a straight line from head to heels. The close elbows make the triceps do the work — if your elbows flare wide, the chest takes over.
How to do it
- Lie face down and set your hands beside your lower ribs, close to your body.
- Press up mainly with your triceps, keeping your elbows tucked and your body straight from head to heels.
- Lower back down with control, elbows still close.
- If your elbows flare wide, the chest takes over — reset and tuck them back in.
- Hold the straight line throughout; do not let your hips sag.
