Reclined Oblique Twist

Muscles worked: Abs & Core · Also: Legs & Glutes

Reclined Oblique Twist is a floor exercise for the sides of the core, done lying on your back with knees bent and arms out to the sides. You lower both knees to one side, return to the middle, then lower them to the other side.

Keep both shoulders on the floor and let the twist come from your waist; only lower the knees as far as you can without a shoulder lifting. Move slowly, breathe out as you lower, and keep the range gentle — this is a controlled twist, not a stretch you force.

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your arms out to the sides.
  2. Lower both knees to one side with control, keeping both shoulders on the floor.
  3. Return to the middle, then lower them to the other side.
  4. Lower the knees only as far as you can without a shoulder lifting.
  5. Move slowly, breathe out as you lower, and keep the range gentle — this is a controlled twist, not a stretch you force.
