Bulgarian Split Squat Left
Muscles worked: Legs & Glutes · Also: Glutes & Hips, Calves
Bulgarian Split Squat Left is a single-leg squat with the back foot raised behind you on a low step or bench. The left leg is the working leg in front, and you lower straight down until your front thigh is near parallel.
Keep your torso tall and your front knee over your toes, and lower only as far as you can without your knee collapsing inward or your back rounding. Hold something for balance at first if you need it — single-leg work is demanding even without added weight.
How to do it
- Stand in front of a low step or bench and place the top of your back (right) foot on it behind you, left foot forward.
- Keep your torso tall and lower straight down until your front thigh is near parallel.
- Keep your front knee over your toes, not collapsing inward, and your back straight.
- Drive up through your front heel to stand.
- Hold something for balance at first if you need it, and lower only as far as you can without your knee collapsing or your back rounding.
