Sumo Squat
Muscles worked: Legs & Glutes · Also: Back & Core, Glutes & Hips, Calves
Sumo Squat is a wide-stance squat with toes turned outward, similar to the plié squat but usually done with a slightly wider base and a more upright torso.
Set your feet well outside shoulder width, turn your toes out, and sit your hips down between your heels with your chest up. Push through your heels and squeeze your glutes at the top — the wide stance should make your inner thighs and glutes work hard.
How to do it
- Set your feet well outside shoulder width and turn your toes out.
- Sit your hips down between your heels with your chest up.
- Keep your torso upright and your knees tracking over your toes.
- Push through your heels to stand, squeezing your glutes at the top.
- The wide stance should make your inner thighs and glutes work hard — if it does not, widen the base a little.
