Side Lunges
Muscles worked: Legs & Glutes · Also: Glutes & Hips, Calves, Back & Core
Side Lunges step out to the side instead of forward or back, training the legs in the sideways direction most routines neglect. You step wide to one side, bend that knee, keep the other leg straight, then push back to the middle.
Keep the bent knee tracking over the toes and the straight leg's foot flat on the floor. Sit your hips back as you step out, keep your chest up, and only step as wide as you can while keeping both feet grounded.
How to do it
- Stand tall, then step wide out to one side.
- Bend the stepping knee and keep the other leg straight, with both feet grounded.
- Sit your hips back as you step out and keep your chest up.
- Keep the bent knee tracking over the toes and the straight leg's foot flat on the floor.
- Push back to the middle and repeat on the other side, stepping only as wide as you can while keeping both feet grounded.
