Fire Hydrant Left
Muscles worked: Legs
Fire Hydrant Left is a hands-and-knees hip exercise: keeping the left knee bent, you lift the left leg out to the side like a dog at a fire hydrant, then lower it.
Open the hip only as far as you can while keeping your torso still and your back flat. The movement should come from the hip, not from rocking your whole body — if your shoulders start shifting, shorten the range.
How to do it
- Start on your hands and knees with your arms straight and your core braced.
- Keeping your left knee bent, lift your left leg out to the side like a dog at a fire hydrant.
- Open the hip only as far as you can while keeping your torso still and your back flat.
- The movement should come from the hip, not from rocking your whole body — if your shoulders start shifting, shorten the range.
- Lower with control and repeat.
